The Temperance Movement, in which people took the pledge not to drink alcohol, effectively began in the North West and played an important part in the lives of many in the region. Despite this, it is a little remembered aspect of our history.

How was the temperance message reshaped and presented?  This illustrated talk analyses the three main approaches of temperance teaching, illustrates the techniques and technologies used, and shows how temperance teaching responded to changes in society over the years.

Suitable for adults.
