Critically acclaimed folk band Root & Branch will be playing workers’ songs and tunes from the British Isles, Ireland and the US as part of All Work and No Play the museum’s ongoing series of artistic responses to our Grafters exhibition.

Root & Branch brings together young(ish) folk musicians steeped like teabags in the traditional music of Scotland, England, Ireland, and North America.  The band incorporates traditional music from all these places and more, covering everything from ten minute trance-like interpretations of Appalachian old time, to heart-breaking renditions of Yorkshire workers’ songs.

Following the release of their first EP Overground in 2015, Root & Branch are embarking on a coast to coast tour of the north of England from 25 to 28 March 2016.  They’ll be dropping into the museum to play a musical response to our Grafters exhibition before playing a gig at the Cutting Room in Ancoats in the evening.Root & Branch
