A weekend of celebratory fun!

Come along for a two day celebration of our exciting Play Your Part project.  We’ll be showcasing some of the fab events and pop up exhibitions that we’ve been trying out over the past few months.

Object handling

Get your hands on our objects and find out more about their history on our object handling table.

Share your thoughts, memories and opinions of campaigns within living memory.  If you’ve got any photographs or objects you’d like to share then please bring them along.

Chance encounters

Exhibition and performance of original creative writing in unusual locations throughout the museum.   A drop in event to celebrate creativity and inspire imagination.

Beneath its folds

Flagwaving, poetry and song with Tony Walsh (aka Longfella) and Quiet Loner

Join us for a rabble-rousing afternoon of poetry and song inspired by the collections of the People’s History Museum.  Taking threads of radical history, these two standard bearers of radical words and song, will weave a narrative that remembers the sacrifices of working people throughout history and celebrates our traditions of campaigning, protest and marching.

Stitched up workshop

Get your glad rags on and make some 1980s inspired accessories with earth conscious fashionista-revolutionaries Stitched up.  The workshop will encourage you to upcycle, create and stitch – empowering, enlightening and engaging people of all ages and backgrounds.

Benefit Bop

Party the night away at our 1980s themed Miners’ Strike benefit bop.  Inspired by the many flyers in our collection promoting similar events.  Donations to the museum not the miners.

Sensory Labyrinth Theatre Performance

Come and try something new, fun and a bit different.  Be taken on a sensory journey inspired by the history of the Fabian Society.  Labyrinth theatre gives a renewed perspective on the ways we experience history.  The performance will use all your senses to inspire images in your mind.  

Please note you will experience the performance individually, but children may be accompanied by an adult.

You will need to sign up for a specific start time.  Please arrive 10 minutes before the time on your ticket.  The performance will take approximately 30 minutes.

Soapbox Sunday

Got a bee in your bonnet?  Something to shout about?  Come along and have your say.  Short five minute ‘rants’ will be followed by a discussion about issues that have been in the news. 

No booking required, just turn up with an idea, an opinion and an open mind
