Peterloo Commemoration Design Day

Peterloo Commemoration Design Day

What do you think the memorial to the Peterloo Massacre should look like?

18 August 2013

18 August 2013, Peterloo Commemoration Design Day

Time 12:00 - 15:00

Duration 3 hours

Cost Free. Donations to the museum gratefully received

The Peterloo Memorial Campaign want to find out what you think and collect as many ideas as possible in the form of sketches, photos, or more!  Come along and get creative!  For those with ‘sketchophobia’ there will be a panel of ‘you describe it – we’ll draw it’ artists on hand to help.  The Peterloo Memorial Campaign will pass on your ideas to Manchester City Council as they aim to campaign to ensure the memorial is an appropriate one that reflects public opinion.  If you’re on Facebook, you can also check out the gallery of images drawn over the years and submit your ideas.  Stick around for the Peterloo – Soldiers on the Rampage performance afterwards.

On the same day, the annual procession recreating the Oldham / Middleton route will be arriving at the site of the massacre with their replica banners and musicians, then making their way to the museum.  Their arrival with banners is always a dramatic moment that will create a positive buzz sure to inspire the Design Day!
