David BirchallDavid Birchall is a musician living in Manchester who uses performance practice as an improviser to think more widely about how living things, sounds and spaces interact.  He has travelled to perform in the UK, Europe, Russia and USA and has been commissioned to do workshops and projects for Brighter Sounds, Bury and Manchester Libraries, Manchester NHS, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Tour de France and the National Media Museum.

For this event David will help attendees hear invisible sounds.  Within the Loitering With Intent exhibition David has shared a stereo field recording of a journey through Manchester using electromagnets as pick ups.  The recording captures the hidden sounds of electricity, motors, WiFi, radio and lighting; sounds that are present in the city but are either unheard or are on the edge of our perception.  The recording brings into being a new way of experiencing the city through sound; revealing patterns, rhythms and areas of interest where there appeared before to be nothing.  This workshop and walk offers you the chance to hear these mysterious sounds to life.
