Left Leave the European Union

The museum is hosting several events on the subject of the EU Referendum, including this one from #Lexit: The Left Leave Campaign:

‘On Thursday 23 June, Britain will vote in a referendum on EU membership.  Voters deserve better than an ugly choice between David Cameron’s pro-EU campaign (or the pipe-dream of a ‘Social Europe’) on the one hand, and the reactionary anti-EU campaigning of UKIP and the Tory right on the other.

That is why we have come together to launch #Lexit: The Left Leave Campaign.  We aim to build a principled, anti-racist and internationalist campaign, committed to democracy, social justice and environmental sustainability.’

Speakers include:

  • Graham Stringer, Labour MP for Blackley & Broughton, former Head of Manchester Council, #LabourLeave
  • Tariq Ali, writer, journalist and filmmaker, Lexit
  • Alex Gordon, former RMT President & Lexit convenor
  • Lindsey German, Counterfire, Lexit
  • Sally Campbell, Socialist Workers Party, Lexit

Lexit is a coalition that includes: The RMT trade union (Rail, Maritime and Transport), Scottish Left Leave, Indian Workers Association (GB), Bangladeshi Workers Council of Britain, Communist Party, Counterfire and Socialist Workers Party.
