City Centre Trail: Temperance in Manchester

The temperance movement, in which people took the pledge not to drink alcohol, effectively began in the North West and played an important part in the lives of many in the region. Despite this, it is a little remembered aspect of our history.

Take a walk through Manchester’s hidden temperance history on this City Centre Trail, led by a Green Badge Guide. The walk starts and finishes at the People’s History Museum.

This event is part of the People’s History Museum’s Waterdrinkers’ Weekend, a series of events and activities to accompany our current changing exhibition Demon Drink? Temperance and the Working Class and inspired by the history of the temperance movement.

Suitable for over 7s to adults.
