We are celebrating our first birthday.  After a soft opening in February 2010 the newly extended People’s History Museum was officially opened on 5 March by Andy Burnham MP.  Since 6 March last year the museum has been busy welcoming lots of visitors.                                                                                    

In our first year we have:

  • Welcomed a total of 80,502 visitors
  • Reached 3,980 people via outreach activities
  • Delivered 80 guided tours of the building and museum galleries
  • Enabled 24,000 badges to be made by visitors
  • Shown 2 changing exhibitions
  • Held 9 community gallery exhibitions
  • Offered 25 different family friendly events
  • Sold 1,454 books in the shop
  • 1,892 greeting cards have been sent up and down the country (and maybe to the other side of the world) having been bought in the museum shop
  • 192 mugs bought in the museum shop are now keeping people topped up on tea or coffee
  • Made and sold 6,300 cups of tea in the Left Bank cafe bar
  • Served 7,500 canapés at corporate events
  • Taken 115 venue hire bookings
  • Welcomed and inspired 6822 school children
  • Facilitated the research of 942 archive users
  • Welcomed 468 visitors to the Textile Conservation Studio
  • Conserved 2 banners
  • Prepared 14 banners for display
  • Displayed 64 banners
  • Had 7 international conservation publication articles accepted
  • Worked with 16 volunteers or workplace students
  • Appeared 174 times in the Manchester Evening News
  • Loaned out 32 objects
  • Dealt with 64 image requests
