Successful funding bid to Arts Council England

27 March 2013

The People’s History Museum is extremely pleased to have been awarded £100,000 from the Arts Council’s Renaissance Strategic support fund for its Play Your Part project.

Play Your Part aims to further develop the People’s History Museum’s relationship with audiences by highlighting the museum’s relevance to current ideas and events as ‘the home of ideas worth fighting for’.  The project will link the collections with contemporary ideas, develop contemporary collecting by working with local communities, and enable audiences to create their own content in response to collections.

Katy Archer, Director of the People’s History Museum said: “We are so pleased to have been awarded this grant from the Arts Council.  Our Play Your Part project is a key part of the museum’s vision for the future and our commitment to making the museum even more relevant to the world we live in today, resonant with people’s lives and able to encourage people to respond to our collections and stories as active citizens.  We can’t wait to start building on our relationships with our audiences, involving them in our work in new and exciting ways and bringing our story of the development of democracy right up to date!  We’re looking forward to working with the Arts Council over the coming year.”

Jane Beardsworth, North West Regional Director, Arts Council England said: “We are delighted to be supporting the People’s History Museum.  Our Renaissance Strategic support fund is enabling museums to find new ways to make the most of their fantastic collections.  Our award to the People’s History Museum is for Play Your Part, an initiative which aims to further develop the museum’s relationship with audiences.  The project will link the collections with contemporary ideas, develop contemporary collecting by working with local communities, and will enable audiences to create their own content in response to collections.”

Organisations across the North West will receive almost £1.5 million in the second round of the Renaissance Strategic support fund.

Nationally, the Arts Council has awarded £17.8 million across the country to innovative and exciting projects, led by a wide range of museums.  A full list of the recipients can be found on the Arts Council website.
