Show Me the Money events programme

We have an exciting programme of events for adults, young people and families to accompany our latest changing exhibition

Debate the impact of the financial sector on our lives, delve deeper into the themes of the exhibition on a curator-led tour and join artists Jane Lawson and Pui Lee for creative workshops – there’s something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Money, Mapping and Mushrooms
Artist Jane Lawson will give a short exhibition tour and an introduction to diagrammatic art, then lead a practical workshop where participants can redesign the global financial system and map out a strategy for getting from here to there.

Play Dough
A fun, interactive workshop about money that explores what we think is valuable or important.  Play a series of games with real money, and learn about how money really works.  Led by Clare Duffy, the writer and director of theatre shows MONEY the game show and Play Dough.

Finance and the Market: Assessing Boundaries
An evening of discussion and debate with top academics.  Join Professor Jeremy Gilbert, author of Common Ground: Democracy and Collectivity in an Age of Individualism, for a public lecture exploring the cultural consequences of financial control.  This will be followed by a roundtable discussing the relationship between society and the arts during times of economic and financial crisis.  Carry on the conversation over a drinks reception.

Money Matters? Patchwork quilt workshop
Get your crafty hands making with artist Helen Mather to help create a patchwork quilt portraying how we experience and value money today.  Inspired by Show Me the Money, this workshop will explore how finance and money have been represented over the decades.  The finished patchwork will go on display in the exhibition.  Part of BBC Get Creative.

The Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) are running a five week course which links to our Show Me the Money exhibition.  The course explores the history, economics and politics that lie behind the art on display.
Suitable for adults aged 19 and over

Snapshot on Finance
Did you know the museum holds an archive of over 95,000 photographs?  Go behind the scenes and delve into our unique photo collections, the Labour Party photograph collection and the Communist Party of Great Britain photograph collection.  In this lunchtime drop in session, browse through photographs on the theme of finance and uncover history through the lens.
