Art Fund Prize Update

20 May 2011

Last night the shortlist for the Art Fund Prize was announced live on Front Row on BBC Radio 4 by Michael Portillo, Chair of the judges.  The museum was one of ten museums in the long list for the prestigious prize, but unfortunately we did not make it to the last four.

Katy Archer, Director of the museum said: “The People’s History Museum is clearly disappointed to not be one of the final four organisations shortlisted for the Art Fund Prize 2011, although we are very proud to have been one of the ten museums and galleries on the long list. Being involved in this year’s competition has made a big impact on the museum’s profile with some great local and national press coverage and we would like to thank all the members of the public who voted for us online and wrote so passionately about the museum. We wish the four shortlisted organisations lots of luck with the rest of the competition”.

The four museums on the shortlist are the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, the Roman Baths Museum, the Polar Museum and the British Museum.  The winner is announced at a ceremony in London on 15 June.

The museum received so much support from the public and we are very grateful for this.  We finished top in the public vote which was a great achievement.  If you love the museum as much as we do, there are various ways in which you can show this:

Visit – come and see our fabulous new exhibition On the March as well as our Main Galleries, Community Gallery Exhibitions plus the shop and riverside cafe

Give  – if you visit, please give a donation to the museum as this helps to keep the museum free to all visitors

Support – why not become a Supporter and help us continue all the great work we are doing
