New School Year

Kick start the new school year with a trip to PHM!  We use performances to bring history to life, city tours to explore Manchester’s past, creative writing to give a voice to objects and art workshops to unearth the history of campaigning.  With a booked or self-guided visit, use the museum to discover ideas worth fighting for.

Summer Holidays

This summer join the museum in exploring identity, families and equality through music, art and storytelling with something happening every Wednesday, 1.00pm - 3.00pm.  On Wednesday 23 August we are having a special event, with all of our museum friends around the city - join us for a jam packed, fun filled day!
pARTicipate session The Art of Protest

FREE LGBT+ workshop with travel included!

There is still time to book your FREE LGBT+ workshop.  Suitable for all ages and also for Teacher CPD, these visits also include The Proud Trust resources and travel.  Explore British Values, Citizenship, local history, and democracy.  Can’t get here?  We can come to you with our outreach programme!
  Handling Boxes

Handling Boxes

The museum has a collection of themed handling boxes which are available to view.  Themes currently include World War I, protest, LGBT+ history and a general overview.  You can see and handle our varied collection at regular periods in our galleries or alternatively, we can bring our collection out to you.  These boxes give a real taster of what the museum holds and we look forward to showing them off!
National Justice Museum

National Justice Museum & PHM Joint Offer!

The museum is strengthening its links with the National Justice Museum (NJM) by expanding our joint offer packages to students.  Groups who book sessions with the NJM have the chance to split their time between the Civil Justice Centre just opposite the museum and our Mini Theatre space, where they can watch our Living History performances Peterloo, Strike a Light! and The Hard Way Up.
The Unremembered: World War One's Army of Workers

The Unremembered: World War One's Army of Workers

The war fundamentally depended on the Labour Corps, but today they are all but forgotten.  100 years after the Labour Corps joined the war effort, The Unremembered project is encouraging community groups from across the UK to participate in remembrance activity.  From readings to performances, the project has lots of ideas in their free resource pack.  Small-scale funding is available.  Email for your free pack:
