FREE Never Going Underground school workshops

Opening on Saturday 25 February 2017, our new changing exhibition details the development of an LGBT+ movement, showing the struggles, and the political, social and historical context of the last sixty years of activism.  We are offering a free LGBT+ Introduction to Archives workshop or guided tour to 15 schools in Greater Manchester who have not visited PHM before.  Contact the Learning Team for more information.

Never Going Underground Family Friendly Launch Day – Sunday 12 March 2017

Explore our new exhibition Never Going Underground: The Fight for LGBT+ Rights and enjoy a day filled with events and activities for all ages, designed and created in partnership with Proud 2 b Parents.  From storytelling to crafting, treasure hunts to music, we are celebrating our personal identities and exploring what it means to be unique.

Celebrate International Women’s Day, Saturday 4 – Saturday 11 March 2017

Celebrate International Women's Day and join us for a Living History performance, a textile workshop, a discussion group and guided tours.  You can also learn about a collaborative piece of artwork created by our Fabric of Protest participants in response to the Match Girls' Strike of 1888.  These events have been supported with a grant from Manchester City Council.

Votes for Women: The First Mass Petition – a new interactive teaching resource from the UK Parliament’s Education Service

This free online resource for 11 to 14 year olds brings the campaign for women's suffrage to life.  Explore the first mass petition for women's right to vote through video, audio, quizzes, and interactive activities.  There are downloadable worksheets for each UK region, including the North West, where Emmeline Pankhurst was born and where 329 women signed the petition.

New acquisition – Campaign for Homosexual Equality archive

Our archive has recently acquired papers relating to the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE).  The collection is an extremely important record of the beginnings of LGBT campaigning history, including material from 1964 and the establishment of CHE.  The collection includes correspondence, minutes, newspapers, conference material and booklets.

Never Going Underground at PHM Shop
