Parliament Week 2013 - POLLfest, The Hard Way Up & visit to NFM

Join us from Friday 15 to Thursday 21 November to celebrate Parliament Week 2013 with POLLfest; a series of events, activities and unfamiliar goings on to explore this year’s theme of Women in Democracy.  To join the celebrations why not book our Living History performance The Hard Way Up – A Suffragette’s Story for your group.  You could combine this visit with a trip to the National Football Museum and their session ‘Women, Football and Society’.

New PHM blog

We are delighted to announce we have posted our first Learning blog, following a visit from Brooklands Primary School in September 2013.  The children enjoyed the experience so much that they wrote to us to tell us about their favourite parts of the day and what they learnt, which helped create our very first blog post!  We would love to hear about your visit.  Why not ask your group to write a blog post – you can be as creative as you like!

The People’s Business – 150 Years of The Co-operative CPD event & resources

Our latest changing exhibition celebrates the 150th anniversary of The Co-operative.  We are holding our next Learning CPD event, The People’s Business – 150 Years of The Co-operative on Monday 27 January 2014 where you can find out about our self-led resources and our co-op Learning offer, which includes Living History workshops and pARTicipate sessions.  After a glass of wine you will have the chance to see Woody the Time Travelling Shopper and have a tour of the exhibition.  Learning staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

Living History performance: Woody the Time Travelling Shopper

In this workshop Key Stage 1 & 2 pupils help time traveller Woody build a time machine on a shopping adventure.  They meet Dotty in the 1936 Co-op shop and her grandmother at the first Co-op shop in 1840s Rochdale.  Come to our Learning CPD event on Monday 27 January 2014 for the chance to win a free Woody workshop.  This workshop is reduced to £80 for the duration of The People’s Business exhibition and is part of our co-op Learning offer.

Christmas Co-op craft table

Christmas is coming!  From 14 December 2013 to 5 January 2014 you can visit our craft table to make a festive co-op creation inspired by our exhibition The People’s Business – 150 Years of The Co-operative.  We have had a rummage through the catalogues and magazines from the 1930s to 1960s with our friends from the National Co-operative Archive and have come up with some stunning images to inspire you.  Why not tweet us a photo of your creation with the hashtag #PHMCo-opcraft.

PHM Learning resources on TES

We will be launching our new self-led Learning resources for The People’s Business exhibition at the end of November 2013.  These resources will be for Key Stage 2, 3 & 4 groups.  You will be able to download them from the Learning resources pages of our website.  They will also be featured on the TES website, alongside our other PHM online Learning resources.  Have a look on TES to find out what teachers thought of our other online resources.
