Title International Department
Scope and Content Contains Ancillary Organisations of the Communist International and files created by the Labour Party on countries. The papers on countries include correspondence and more general notes, papers and press reports on the political, economic and social conditions of other countries. Each major country has its own series of files. Most files in this sequence start around the close of the Second World War and the post war rebuilding and end during the early to mid 1960's.    Subjects covered include key international initiatives including the Schumann Plan, Marshal aid, the Socialist International and defence. The files are roughly arranged A-Z starting with Western Europe, The Commonwealth, Non Commonwealth Africa, Asia and USA. The original sequence has been retained. These papers are described in the 'Guide to the Labour Party Archives' page 27 as 'International Department Papers post 1945'. Three successive International Secretaries, Denis Healy, Morgan Phillips and David Ennals created them
