Description This banner was displayed in 'Bannerama', an exhibition by the START Workshop at the People's History Museum from 22 March until 31 May 1996. START studios were established in 1986 for those recovering from mental illness, enabling them to work with professionals to produce art in textiles, drawing, painting, photography and music. The studios have played an important role in helping people to recover their confidence and feel valued, as well as enabling them to develop artistic talents.

Bannerama was a joint project with the People's History Museum to create an exhibition of modern banners, using the museum's own collections for inspiration.

This banner was one of two works from the exhibition that the museum collected. It is entitled 'Colours of Friendship and Peace' and was made by Sara Hodgson, a textile artist specialising in batik.

Materials: Batik dyed cotton ground, bordered with synthetic fabrics and lined with cotton.
