The Battle Of Barton Moss – opens Saturday 23 January

From November 2013 to April 2014 a group of environmental activists set up camp at Barton Moss, Salford to protest against fracking.  Photographer Steven Speed spent three to four days a week for the duration of the protest documenting the people, the camp, the policing and the daily protest walks.  Running until Sunday 17 April, this eye-opening exhibition looks at the community that grew through the protests, how it was policed, the impact the protest had and the methods it used in achieving its successes.

Quick!  Last chance to visit Show Me the Money: The Image of Finance, 1700 to the Present.  Ends Sun 24 Jan

Have a Radical 2016

Is your New Year’s resolution to visit more museums?  Learn something new?  Support a good cause?  As the home of ideas worth fighting for, PHM celebrates the stories of the radical thinkers whose big ideas have shaped our society.  This is an invitation to join the Radicals and help make sure their stories continue to be told.  You can join the Radicals in a range of ways, including becoming a Radical Supporter, a Radical Patron or by sponsoring your Radical Hero.  Your support will go directly towards PHM’s collections, exhibitions, events and Learning Programme and helps to keep admission free.

Mindfulness meditation in Manchester

Want to feel different in 2016?  Here at PHM we’re interested in change on the inside as well as the outside so we thought you might like to know about a new mindfulness meditation course 'Be Here Now!' starting in Manchester next week.  The four week course, from meditation company beanddo will teach the techniques of meditation and how to use it in your daily life, boost creativity and ‘Make Happy Work’.  Held at the Friends’ Meeting House just a short walk from the museum, the course runs for four Mondays starting on Monday 11 January.  The cost is £60 or £50 for concessions.
