It’s the start of a new year and time for the museum’s annual banner changeover.  While our Textile Conservation Team prepare the new display of banners, please note Main Gallery One is closed this week, re-opening on Saturday 10 January and Main Gallery Two will be closed from Monday 12 January, re-opening on Saturday 17 January.  Visit again soon and be the first to see lots of newly conserved banners!  Find out more about your favourite banner on our Beautiful Banners tour on Friday 30 January & Friday 27 February, and go behind the scenes on a tour of our Textile Conservation Studio on Friday 20 February.

Made In Eccles – opens Saturday 24 January

An exhibition of black and white photographs from a working class Eccles lad in the 1970s and 1980s, Martin O’Neill.  ‘I didn’t know I was working class when I was growing up.  I didn’t even know there were such things as classes, come to think of it!  I grew up in Eccles and didn’t think twice that all the houses were joined together in a row...I still didn’t know I was working class when, in 1973, I joined our school camera club and began to photograph everything and anyone around me…’  Visit this fascinating exhibition and take a look back at the Eccles of days gone by.  On display until Sunday 19 April.
