Banner Changeover

It’s a busy start to the new year for our Textile Conservation Team, who are currently preparing the museum’s annual banner changeover.  Please note Main Gallery One is closed this week, re-opening on Saturday 12 January and Main Gallery Two will be closed from Monday 14 January, re-opening on Saturday 19 January.  Visit again soon and be the first to see lots of new banners!  Find out more about your favourite banner on our Beautiful Banners tour on Friday 1 February, followed by a tour of the Textile Conservation Studio.

Mums Matter 2 Mancunians– opening Saturday 19 January

Do Mums Matter to Mancunians?  Come and find out at this inspiring exhibition by Manchester Oxfam Group.  Running until Sunday 14 April, this exhibition highlights the group’s work, focusing on two of their major campaigns.  Come and see the baby blanket created for the MOMM:1400 campaign by hundreds of Mancunians and follow in the footsteps of Pramble, an unusual petition on maternal mortality issues. On Mother’s Day, Sunday 10 March, Manchester Oxfam Group invites everyone to visit the museum and tell us how much their mums mean to them!

M & H Awards 2013

The Guardian Cultural Professionals Network has teamed up with the annual Museums & Heritage Awards to launch a search for the UK's most inspiring museum or heritage visitor attraction of the past 12 months.  Do you love PHM?  Have you been inspired by a visit to the museum in the past year?  Take your opportunity to show it and nominate PHM!  Nominations are open until 11 February, after which the five attractions with the most nominations will be shortlisted and opened to a public vote.  Follow the link below and help the museum continue its success at the M & H Awards.

New exhibition at Cornerhouse

Just a short walk from the museum, why not visit our friends at the Cornerhouse and check out an exciting new exhibition.  Running from Saturday 26 January to Sunday 17 March, Subject to Constant Change is a major solo exhibition from celebrated Italian-German artist Rosa Barba, whose work combines film, sculpture and performance.  The show features a new film commission Subconscious Society; shot on location in the grandiose interior of Manchester's hitherto abandoned Albert Hall and across the Kent landscape, the work takes the end of the industrial age as its subject.
