Easter holiday fun

Around town over the Easter holidays?  Visit The People’s Business exhibition and be inspired by our Co-op shopping displays to create your own beautiful basket at our craft table, or screen-print your own snazzy shopper at our pARTicipate workshop.  Bring your very little ones to our story session to meet Mr Ordinary and help him get his Thinking and Doing back, or why not decorate a duck inspired by the Spinningfields Duck Race on Good Friday.  Explore the rest of the museum and enjoy hands-on stuff in every gallery for visitors of all ages.

Furiously Mad: 300 Years of Legal Insanity

Visit our new Community Gallery exhibition, brought to us by Pool Arts.  Running until Sunday 6 July, this fascinating exhibition reveals the legislative history relating to the treatment of people described as ‘Furiously Mad’ in a legal document in 1714 – through to the more recent treatment of the ‘mentally ill’.  The exhibition presents research on both mental health law and policy, along with artists’ personal responses to the subject through installation, performance, video, print and paintings.  There is also an exciting series of talks and performances to accompany the exhibition.

Last chance to see The People’s Business exhibition

Running until Sunday 11 May, don’t miss your last chance to visit our current changing exhibition, The People’s Business – 150 Years of The Co-operative. This people’s business began its humble origins as the Co-operative Wholesale Society in Rochdale, Greater Manchester in 1863.  In partnership with The Co-operative, this fascinating exhibition explores the story and values behind the ‘caring sharing co-op’ and offers a unique insight into the way we shop and live.  Enjoy the final guided tour of the exhibition on Friday 9 May.

From the War of Nature at Manchester Museum

Boxing hares, burrowing parasites, baby birds and prowling wolves are just some of the characters appearing in this story of predation, competition, co-operation and collaboration.  The exhibition reveals that living things resolve conflict in many, often unexpected, ways and aims to challenge the perception that war is an inevitable outcome of conflict.  Running from Friday 11 April to Sunday 7 September, From the War of Nature coincides with the nationwide commemoration of the start of World War I.
