Easter Holiday Fun

Visit the museum over the Easter holidays and enjoy a special programme of events to accompany our Hidden exhibition.  Be inspired by the furry friends you can spot in the exhibition and decorate a dog at our craft table, make your own Tom ‘Thumb’ Paine or Hilda ‘Hands’ of Whitby finger puppets in our Funky Fingers workshop, or why not put yourself in the picture and help us make a giant collage in our Huge and Hidden activity.  You can also get creative with clay at our Protest Pots workshop, decorate a duck inspired by the Spinningfields Duck Race and take the opportunity to meet Anita Sharma in our Living History performance Moving Stories - Migration & Identity.

The Art of Protest

Visit our new Community Gallery exhibition, brought to us by NOISEfestival.com.  Running from Saturday 20 April to Sunday 30 June, this exciting exhibition is a stunning showcase of the best protest artworks submitted to the NOISE ‘Art of Protest’ project.  Launched in response to the Manchester Riots in August 2011, the project promotes high-impact, peaceful protests, taking inspiration from a range of protest artists including Banksy, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Billy Bragg, Ed Hall and many more.  Don’t miss NOISEstock on Saturday 18 May, an interactive ‘sit-in’ evening with performances from protest musicians to celebrate Museums at Night 2013.

A limited run of posters from our Hidden exhibition have been signed by photographer Red Saunders – get yours while stocks last!

Did you know the Labour History Archive & Study Centre collects the personal papers of radical politicians, writers and activists?

Kids in Museums Award

Is PHM your favourite museum to visit with the family?  The 2013 Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award has been launched in conjunction with Kids in Museums, giving you the chance to say which museum, gallery or historic home in Britain gives the warmest welcome to families.  If you and your family think PHM should win, email award@kidsinmuseums.org.uk and tell them what makes us your favourite place.  Anyone can make a nomination - families, children, curators, volunteers, museum professionals - the more passionate your argument, the better the chance your chosen museum will have of making it to the longlist.   The deadline for nominations is Friday 10 May 2013.

Spinningfields Duck Race

Get your ducks in a row!  The Manchester Duck Race in Spinningfields is fast approaching, taking place on Good Friday 29 March.  Why not visit the museum and decorate a gingerbread duck in The Left Bank cafe bar, then step outside to watch the ducks race down the River Irwell, enjoying a day of family fun to start your Easter weekend.  Spinningfields will be transformed with giant tea cup rides, a bouncy castle, slides and face painting for all to enjoy before the race.  So get quacking and make sure you’ve got a duck in the race!  Buy your little ducklings online now for just £1 and avoid the queues on the day.
