Death and the Working Class, opening Saturday 23 October Don't miss our next changing exhibition, Death and the Working Class, opening with a spectacular launch day this Saturday 23 October.  A 1933 Austin hearse will be on display, a horse drawn hearse will tour the city centre, The Co-operative Brass Band from Crewe will be performing and there will even be a coffin making demonstration!  Running until Monday 2 May 2011, this exhibition looks at the enormous changes in perceptions of death and funeral customs over the last 200 years, with fascinating collections illustrating the world of 'the good send off'.  Supported by The Co-operative Funeralcare. Remebering the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb blasts65 Years On - Remembering the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb blasts The next exhibition on display in our Community Gallery opens on Thursday 4 November.  The UK and Ireland Nuclear Free Local Authorities (of which Manchester is one) have brought this exhibition by The Peace Promotion Section Nagasaki Municipal Government to the UK. Come and visit the exhibition which is housed in the renovated Engine Hall of the Pump House.  On display until Sunday 28 November.    
 
Building of the Year Award 2010 Katy & Andy with Sir Howard Bernstein Building of the Year 2010! The museum was delighted to win the Building of the Year Award for 2010!  The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce awards are given in recognition of key construction projects in Greater Manchester.  At the awards ceremony last Thursday 14 October, held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, Sir Howard Bernstein presented the award to Katy Archer, Director and Andy Pearce, Deputy Director. The museum fought off stiff competition from the other finalists, including The Stockport Plaza restoration, which was Highly Commended, The Point at Old Trafford and The Christie Patient Treatment Centre. Buy Art Fair         Buy Art Fair Buy Art Fair is your chance to buy contemporary original art from more than 300 artists exhibiting with 60 galleries from across the UK.  This year's event will open at Spinningfields, just across from the museum, from 28-31 October 2010.  In additional to the artwork on sale, there is the chance to listen to the advice of expert art collectors including Richard Greer and Robert Devereux.  As a partner of the event we can offer you the chance to get free tickets to the event.  Visit the Buy Art Fair website for all the artist information, timetable for the talks and to register for your ticket.
