November 2013 – 1935 general election
Some of the themes in this election, which took place on 14 November, serve to illustrate that there are perhaps, some constants in British politics: the cost of living, the lack of decent housing, the overbearing influence of banks and City of London money on the country’s economy – the Labour Party idea at the time was that they should be better regulated, plus the need to address the terrible social waste that was, and is, mass unemployment. It is worth noting that this was the last general election for ten years.
The general election collection held at the Labour History Archive consists of around 80 boxes, collected by the Labour Party and mainly covering the years 1910 to 2001. Material includes constituency leaflets, press releases, manifestos, press cuttings, correspondence, election addresses, broadcasts and posters.
