July 2013 – Ashes 1956
Australia toured England in 1956 to play a five match series.
The series was won by England 2-1, with two games drawn.
This is a score card from one of the test matches. It was kept by Ivor Montague, a member of both the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Montague was a keen sports fan, his collection of papers contain programmes for, amongst other things, the 1948 “austerity” Olympics held in London, several Empire Games, plus programmes for table tennis competitions. Montague was President of the English Table Tennis Association and a champion player himself.
