Conservative Party general election leaflet, 1992

Conservative Party general election leaflet, 1992

9 April marks 25 years since the 1992 general election in which John Major experienced an unpredicted victory.  Opinion polls during the campaign had predicted a Labour win.  Major’s victory remains the record for the largest number of votes postwar.

This campaign leaflet shows Conservative candidate Patrick McNair-Wilson, who ran in 1992 for the New Forest Constituency.  Whilst McNair-Wilson won his seat, evidently not everyone in the constituency was a fan.  It appears that the recipient of this leaflet saw their criticisms as inspiration for the music hall!
