National Conference on War Service for Women papers, 1915
This conference took place one hundred years ago this month and is a neglected part of the story of women’s campaign for the vote. The papers for the conference are a part of the War Emergency Workers’ National Committee material we hold. The conference has never been looked at in depth by historians of the period.
The file, some two hundred pages, contains minutes, letters, press reports, shorthand minutes, and printed material on the whole day and the aftermath of the conference. Part of the reason for choosing it as an Item of the Month is in the hope that somebody will use the material to carry out a piece original historical research using the documents we have.
This page is a series of Model Resolutions that were debated at the conference, annotated by Jim Middleton who was the Secretary of the War Emergency Workers’ National Committee during the course of the war.
