for web Unconvention logoLater this week the People’s History Museum becomes one of a select number of unusual venues hosting one of the UK’s most exciting new music events – Un-Convention Salford 1 –3 October 2010 - From Brass Bands to Colombian Hip Hop. Un-Convention brings together the most inspirational and influential figures from the global grassroots music scene including Bill Drummond, Roisin Murphy, Jarvis Cocker, Martin Atkins, Jon McClure, Brian Travers, Billy Bragg, Kevin Cummins and Don Letts to explore new and cutting edge issues around music, technology and creativity.  For full details of all events and performances visit
for web Sarah McQuaid To celebrate this unique collaboration between museum and music our friends at Un-Convention have given us two free access-all-areas wristbands to give away in a competition.  All you have to do is answer this question; What was the title of British Sea Power’s first single? Email with the answer to this question and you will be entered into the draw.  Deadline for answers is 12noon on Friday 1 October.  The winner will be announced at 1.00pm on Friday.

A feast of acoustic sets from artists in Manchester for the UK’s most eclectic independent music industry event. Live and free in the museum’s magnificent Edwardian Engine Hall. Terms and conditions: The deadline for entries to be received to is 12noon on Friday 1 October. Please email your answer to the question using the subject ‘Un-Convention’, along with your name and a contact telephone number (so we can tell you if you’ve won). Only one entry per person.  All entrants must be ages over 18. The winner will be selected at random from the correct answers and will be announced at 1.00pm.  The winner will be contacted by email and/or phone. No cash alternative is available. Prize is non-transferable, non-refundable and non-changeable. Our decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Any entries received after the closing will not be entered into the competition. The winner will need to collect the two wristbands allowing unlimited access to Un-Convention from the Information Desk at the People’s History Museum after 1.00pm on Friday 1 October.  The museum will be open until 9.30pm on Friday due to another event, from 10.00am until 11.00pm on Saturday and 10.00am until 5.00pm on Sunday.
